Pengaruh Media Kartu Kata Bergambar terhadap Kemampuan Membaca Permulaan Siswa Kelas II UPTD SD Negeri 19 Simatahari

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using picture word cards on the beginning reading ability of second-grade students of UPTD SD Negeri 19 Simatahari. This type of research is pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study was all second-grade students of UPTD SD Negeri 19 Simatahari. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, so that a sample of class II-A of 15 students was selected. Data collection was carried out by a beginning reading ability test covering 5 aspects, namely letter and sound recognition, reading syllables, reading meaningful words, decoding meaningless words, and reading aloud short texts. Data analysis in this study included prerequisite tests in the form of normality tests, and hypothesis tests in the form of paired sample t-tests. The results showed that the use of picture word cards had a significant effect on the beginning reading ability of second-grade students of UPTD SD Negeri 19 Simatahari. This is evidenced by the results of the hypothesis test, which obtained a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a calculated t-value of 20.088 > t-table 2.145, thus accepting the research hypothesis. The effect is also demonstrated by the post-test score for students' beginning reading ability, which was higher than their pre-test score, namely 84.2 > 70.2.
